Feb. 8: Thanks to the St. Helena Public Library, there’s always a free film on Monday nights. View a trailer at www.shpl.org, or just drop by the library at 7 p.m. to enjoy tonight’s romantic mystery “The Lake House,” with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves.
Feb. 9: It’s a not-to-be-missed night of rhythm at the Oxbow Public Market, where the group One World Percussion will perform African, Afro-Cuban, Latin and world-fusion beats from 6 to 8 p.m. Free admission, no minimum purchase and there’s even room to dance: (707) 226-6529, 610 First St., Napa, www.oxbowmarket.com.

Start your week with a Chaplin masterpiece, celebrate the 130th anniversary of a local landmark, rock out to help raise money for Haiti relief — pace yourself, there’s a lot to do in Napa County! Jan. 25: The St. Helena Public Library presents the classic silent comedy “The Little Tramp,” in which Charlie Chaplin battles it out with technology, unemployment, jail and demanding customers. Known as Chaplin’s last silent film, this film is anything but—from the opening notes of the rich score (composed by Chaplin himself) to the first and last time the star’s voice is heard on screen. The film was deemed “culturally significant” by the Library of Congress in 1989 and selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. 7 p.m., free: 1492 Library Lane, St. Helena, (707) 963-5244.

Nov. 25: Thanksgiving week kicks off Upvalley with a musicians’ open-microphone night at Calistoga Restaurant and Brewery on Lincoln Avenue. Amateurs and professionals alike are welcome to perform from 8:30 p.m. till midnight; (707) 942-4101, www.calistogainn.com. In downtown Napa–where three miles of white lights are twinkling along building roof lines, the First and Third street bridges, and the Riverwalk–you can watch Mayor Jill Techel and Congressman Mike Thompson light a 29-foot tall Christmas tree in Veterans Park, with live entertainment PLUS free cookies and hot chocolate from 6 to 7 p.m. At 6:30, Philip Smith and his all-singing Gentlemen of Jazz play and harmonize at Uva Trattoria till 9:30 p.m. (1040 Clinton St., (707) 255-6646, reservations advised); 7:30 is show time for vocalist Suzi Gilbert and jazz pianist Mike Greensill at Silo’s Jazz Club, till 9 p.m.: $20, Napa River Inn, www.silosjazzclub.com, (707) 251-5833.
