Dine, Shop & Donate In Downtown Napa This December

A winter day in Napa Valley

By Deirdre Bourdet

Downtown Napa continues to amaze and delight me with its community spirit.  From the pedicab operator who peddles drunken downtown revelers home just for tips, to the outpouring of support for wine country food trucks on First Fridays, Napans are linking arms and supporting their own.

Napa’s downtown businesses have united to support local charities for the holidays, and are inviting locals and visitors alike to join them.  Every Thursday evening this month, downtown shops will be enticing shoppers with fun promotions, and donating a portion of their sales from the night to a local non-profit organization of their choice.

This week (December 9th), SALA Salon hosts an art show by local photographer Bob McClenahan, whose gorgeous pictures of Napa’s vineyards, grapes, and revelry are presently adorning the salon.  SALA stands by the principle that personal beauty need not be at the expense of natural beauty, and will be donating a portion of their environmentally friendly product and service sales from the night to New Tech High School.

Art show attendees will enjoy complimentary wines from Flora Springs and Mer Soleil, complimentary hand massages from SALA’s professional staff, and delectable cookies by Annie the Baker while they check out Bob’s photography and SALA’s extensive menu of spa and salon services.  Thanks to a special visit from local food truck Mark’s the Spot, you won’t have to leave to score more substantial sustenance—delectable sliders (try the buttermilk fried chicken, or the bacon-basil-brie with red onion jam, or the classic hot dogs and burgers), seasonal salads, and French toast on a stick are but a few steps away.  Be sure to thank SALA for hosting this special night with a purchase of some Aveda products, a beauty treatment, or maybe even some highlights.  1315 First Street, 707.252.0202.

So far this month, the Dine, Shop & Donate program has benefitted the Napa Valley Education Foundation, COPE Family Center, Puertas Abiertas Community Resource Center, the Napa Hospice, and many others thanks to participating merchants like SALA Salon, Quent Cordair Fine Art, Ceja Vineyards Tasting Room, Vintage Sweet Shop, Mustard Seed, Napa Valley Traditions, Eye Works, Carpe Diem Wine Bar, and a gratifyingly long list of other generous local businesses.

Check downtown merchants’ window displays to see which non-profit will benefit on any given Thursday, and join the season of giving.  With Dine Shop & Donate, even a gift to yourself is a gift to others!  But this time, it’s really not all in your head.
